The British armed forces minister praised Ukraine’s drone technology as world-class, stating that it can boost international efforts to safeguard the Strait of Hormuz.
This month, Britain convened consultations among over 30 nations to reopen the strait amid an Iranian embargo that has halted global oil shipments due to U.S. and Israeli operations.
This week, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced Kyiv’s participation in negotiations and launches a navigation tab, utilizing expertise from four years of war with Russia. Ukraine sent over 200 professionals to the Middle East, where they successfully downed Iran’s Shahed drones.
Ukrainian technology created during the war is among the best in the world. This might be useful in the Middle East, as shown against Shahed drones and the Strait of Hormuz, according to Al Carns during a visit to Kyiv on Friday.
Carns advised Ukraine to boost exports of advanced technologies to gain a competitive edge and collaborate with NATO countries for learning and development.
Ukraine issued its first export licenses in February. Kyiv aims to fund its defense sector and use weapons as diplomatic leverage with allies.
However, some sector executives say Kyiv is slow to approve licenses and risks missing the Iran conflict opportunity.
“Ukraine needs to speed up its capacity to export,” Carns noted. “I still believe the best systems sit in Ukraine, but the rest of the world is catching up.”
