Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi announced that Japan and Indonesia will increase energy security coordination amid the U.S.-Israeli conflict over Iran, which threatens key Asian oil and gas supplies.
The Iran scenario highlights the worldwide recognition of the strategic importance of resources and energy security. Following negotiations in Tokyo, Takaichi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto acknowledged Indonesia’s resource-rich status.
Japan has expanded its oil inventories, implemented gasoline subsidies, and sought energy sources beyond the Middle East.
Prabowo stated that Japan and Indonesia will endeavor to deescalate the conflict in the Middle East among all sides. Japan was invited to participate in Indonesia’s economy, particularly in vital minerals, rare earths, industrialization, and nuclear energy.
Neither leader provided details on economic security coordination between the two countries.
