India Face Double Price On Urea Fertilizer due to Iran War

The world’s largest urea importer, India, submitted a tender earlier this month to secure 2.5 million tons of the fertiliser, accounting for over 25% of its 2025 annual imports of 10 million tons. has received bids for urea at around $1,000 per metric ton, roughly double the price obtained two months ago due to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran disrupting supplies.

Industry authorities predicted that Indian urea purchases will raise spot market prices, forcing smaller customers in Asia and Africa to pay more for crop nutrients necessary for crop productivity.

Sources reported that the lowest urea supply offer on the west coast was $935 per ton, while the east coast offer was $959 per ton, including cost and freight.

The previous urea tender by India’s Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers received offers of $508 per ton for west coast delivery and $512 per ton for east coast delivery, according to sources.

In the new tender, IPL requested 1.5 million tons via the west coast and the remaining 1 million tons via the east coast. Shipments should leave load ports by June 14, it stated.
An unnamed corporate executive stated that IPL will request all bidders to match the lowest price in the tender and make a choice based on sellers’ responses.

Despite the demand for urea, India will not allow exporters to charge outrageous prices, according to an official.
