Consumer Prices Still High in Trump Era

Trump campaigned on a promise to cut consumer costs that rose during Joe Biden’s term, but he now faces the same harsh truth as his predecessor: prices rise, they rarely fall, and Americans dislike higher prices.

Trump may be making the same mistakes as Biden, downplaying the impact of increasing costs on people and relying on business investments to boost jobs and wages, a long-term approach.

In recent days, including at the start of Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s state visit, Trump has touted trillions of dollars in new investments that will create jobs and said inflation is under control, citing low gasoline prices.

“It’s eerily similar,” said conservative American Enterprise Institute economic policy research head Michael Strain. “The mistake that they’re both making is not accepting the fact of life, the fact of politics – that the American people really care about prices going up rapidly.”
